Abstract: Stevioside, a natural sweetener extracted from leaves of Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni, is used in medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for diabetes, obesity, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and for the prevention of tooth decay. The literature about the characteristic, the present use in China and the prospects for development are discussed.
